Age-Friendly Municipality Policy

In order to address the changing needs of its senior citizens, the Town of Kirkland has implemented an Age-Friendly Municipality Policy which helps its elderly population stay active and keep contributing to Kirkland’s vitality.

According to the Quebec Ministry of Health and Social Services, the goals of an Age-Friendly Municipality (AFM) are, among other things, to fight against ageism and to adapt municipal services, policies and structures to seniors’ needs.

The Town of Kirkland wants to offer a safe, dynamic and inclusive living environment to its seniors to encourage their involvement and promote active aging. To that end, Kirkland’s AFM Plan of Action focuses on housing, transportation, outdoor spaces and buildings, community support and health services, participation and social involvement as well as communication and information.
