Due to emergency work carried out on the water network, a preventative boil-water advisory is currently in effect for the above-mentioned streets

Office of the Returning Officer

The Returning Officer has established a main office at the Kirkland Town Hall. That office is comprised of an Election Secretary, an Election Treasurer and the administrative staff responsible for preparing the election.

The Returning Officer

In accordance with the Act respecting Elections and Referendums in Municipalities, the Town Clerk of the Town of Kirkland acts as the Returning Officer for the election on November 2, 2025.

With the help of the Election Secretary and the administrative staff, the Returning Officer ensures the proper conduct of the election and, to this end, provides training to all election staff members and supervises their work.

The Election Treasurer

The Election Treasurer oversees, among other things, the application of the rules on the financing of political parties and independent candidates for the municipal election as well as the control of electoral expenses.

Election staff and positions to be filled

If you are interested in working for the municipal election, please complete and return the Job Application Form. Please send your form at the following email address: election@ville.kirkland.qc.ca.

Here is a description of different positions we will need for the municipal election:

Member of the Board of Revisors:

  • receives electors who submit requests for registration, removal, or correction to the electoral list;
  • decides on the admissibility of the requests.

Reception Officer:

  • greets electors;
  • helps manage queues and assists electors by directing them to the correct polling section.

Officer in Charge of Information and Order:

  • provides electors with information regarding satisfactory proof of identity and address;
  • directs electors to the appropriate polling station;
  • assures order.

Deputy Returning Officer:

  • facilitates the exercise of the right to vote and ensure the secrecy of the vote;
  • swears in electors, as required;
  • informs the person in charge of the polling station of any major problem occurring in the conduct of the vote;
  • proceeds with the counting of the votes;
  • transmits the results of the vote;
  • remits the ballot box to the person in charge of the polling station.

Poll Clerk:

  • ticks the name of the elector who has voted on the electoral list;
  • completes the poll book and various election forms;
  • assists the deputy returning officer in counting the votes.

Please note that the deputy returning officer and the poll clerk shall also act, when needed, as officers at the identity verification panel in order to:

  • ensure that electors are registered on the electoral list;
  • verify the identity of electors who do not have one of the documents prescribed by law;
  • administer oaths to electors.
