TREES, THE GREAT BENEFACTORS OF URBAN AREAS

Urban trees play an essential role with regards to our well-being. Not only do they embellish the landscape, they also bring several benefits and improve air quality in many different ways, by:

  • purifying the air
  • cooling the ambient air, thus contributing to the fight against urban heat islands
  • improving and protecting soil structure and soil water quality
  • helping to counter runoff and soil erosion
  • providing protection against rain and strong winds

For all these reasons the Town of Kirkland makes considerable efforts every year to maintain, preserve and protect its urban forest.
