Applying for a permit

Applying for a permit

If you are planning renovations of any kind this spring or summer, be sure to check beforehand whether you need a construction permit or a certificate of authorization.

The "Online Permit Management" platform allows citizens to submit a permit application online, track its status, and in many cases, pay the required fees and obtain the desired permit/certificate without having to go anywhere.

All you need are your plans and other required documents in digital format (photos of documents are not accepted) and a credit card. The service is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

To access the platform, you must first create a user account.

Online Permit Application

Your permit application can be submitted in person at Town Hall during regular business hours (17200 Hymus Boulevard, Kirkland).

To this end, we invite you to download and complete the permit application form, then submit it along with all required documents. Paper copies of the form are also available at City Hall.

A CONSTRUCTION PERMIT is required to:

  • Install an inground swimming pool
  • Renovate a building
  • Replace a fireplace or a wood-burning appliance
  • Extend, modify or build a structure

A CERTIFICATE OF AUTHORIZATION is required for most types of renovations, in particular to:

  • Install a fence
  • Install an above-ground swimming pool
  • Install a spa
  • Install a heat pump
  • Install a garden shed
  • Install a temporary building
  • Install a sign
  • Excavate the ground
  • Extend or redo a driveway/parking area
  • Build a balcony / patio / deck
  • Move, repair or demolish a structure
  • Hold a garage sale or a block party
  • Cut down a tree

PerLE Program

PerLE is a provincial program that helps businesses identify the permits and licences they need from all levels of government, as well as how to obtain them.

You can access the PerLE program website to get a personalized list of permits and licences that may be required to start and grow your business.
