In Kirkland, household waste collection takes place once a week on Fridays, starting at 7:00 a.m. Garbage bags and discarded waste must be placed at the curb after 6 p.m. Thursday evening or before 7:00 a.m. Friday morning. You must ensure that they are placed on your property and not on the street, so as not to obstruct the street sweeper or the snow plows. Otherwise, the streets cannot be cleaned properly.
If you miss the garbage collectors, please ensure that your garbage is stored in your garage until the next collection day, out of respect for your neighbours and to avoid attracting night time visitors.
Please note that the town does not provide specific bins for household waste, citizens must get their own bags and garbage bins. Household waste must be placed in hermetically sealed bags. It is not permitted to dispose of household waste directly in the garbage can or waste bin.
The following non-recoverable bulky items must be placed in the Friday garbage collection:
Upholstered furniture covered with leather, fabric or any other covering material, such as sofas, couches, armchairs, mattresses, box springs and other similar items
If your bulk items or construction debris were not collected on the scheduled collection day, you can quickly notify the Town through the Online Request System.
When all conditions are met (items set out on time, placed properly, and containing only accepted materials), the Town will instruct the contractor to carry out a corrective collection.
Once your request is received, you will receive an email confirmation specifying the scheduled date for the corrective collection and, if necessary, the adjustments to be made regarding any non-compliant items.
To help protect the environment and in an effort to reduce the volume of residual waste going to landfill sites, let’s always remember to limit the contents of our garbage bags to ultimate waste, meaning residual waste that cannot be recycled, recovered or reused. In this respect, let’s try hard to throw away only items that have been refused in the Recycling Collection, the Organic Waste Collection and other residual waste collections.
