Delays in Branch Collection

The Town wishes to inform residents of delays in branch collection currently affecting several sectors of the municipality due to a mechanical breakdown of the wood chipper used for these operations.

The equipment has now been repaired, and crews are currently working to catch up and restore the regular collection schedule as quickly as possible.

To help facilitate operations and ensure safe and efficient collection, residents are reminded of the importance of placing branches at the curb in accordance with the applicable guidelines.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Branches

The Town of Kirkland offers free door-to-door branch pick-up & on-site chipping service at specific dates in the Spring and in the Fall. The service is also available upon request outside of the periods mentioned below.
You can either submit your request through the Requests online system or by calling 514 630-2727 during regular business hours.

2026 Pick-Up Dates

NORTH sector:

  • Spring: April 27, May 11 and 25
  • Fall: August 31, September 14 and 28

  SOUTH sector:

  • Spring: April 20, May 4 and 18
  • Fall: September 7 and 21, October 5

Our weekly rounds begin Monday* morning at 7:30 am and run through to Friday afternoon at 3:00 pm every week during the periods mentioned above. The crew takes a different route every time, so in order not to miss them when they are in your area, branches that need to be discarded must be placed at the curbside before 7:00 am on Monday* morning of that week.

BRANCHES

BRANCHES placed at the curb must :

  • rest entirely on the citizen’s property;
  • be aligned in a single row;
  • not be stacked in a jumble;
  • be placed with the cut ends facing the street;
  • have a diameter of less than 20 cm (8 inches).

 THE PILE OF BRANCHES to be collected :

  • must consist of branches and twigs only, nothing else
  • must be free of ** tree trunks and stumps, as well as of debris such as soil, peat, lumber, boards, metal construction debris or other debris;
  • must respect the maximum authorized dimensions of 1 m high x lot width.

**Tree trunks and stumps are not picked up by any municipal collection service.  They must be taken to the Ecocentre.**

In the case of arboricultural work carried out by a private contractor, citizens must ensure that their contractor’s bid includes the removal of branches cut from their property.

VINE

Vines can cause equipment failure and serious injury to operators by becoming entangled in the shredder mechanism and are only accepted for branch collection in cuttings of up to 1.2 m (4 ft.) in length.  Otherwise, vines must be cut to this maximum length or disposed of in brown paper bags intended for organic and green waste collection.

Certain services provided to the public present potential hazards to our workers and risks of equipment failure that can be very costly.  This is especially true of the branch collection service, which requires the safe use of specialized equipment.

To ensure the safety of workers assigned to this task, prevent injuries and avoid costly repairs, it is important to prepare the collection site properly and follow applicable safety regulations.
