Inspection of Fire Hydrants

Every fall, the Town conducts its annual fire hydrant inspection program to ensure that all hydrants meet operational and safety standards before the freezing season.

These inspections help to:

  • Verify that each fire hydrant is operating properly;
  • Ensure an adequate water supply is available in case of an emergency;
  • Measure water pressure and flush hydrants that are not draining properly;
  • Detect and repair leaks in the water distribution system.

Inspection work

  • Inspections are carried out by sector (see map).
  • Residents within the affected inspection sector are notified of upcoming inspection work through a Municipal Alert sent within 48 hours before the work begins. To sign up for Town alerts, complete the online registration form.
  • Inspection work is conducted overnight, from 11:30 p.m. to 7:30 a.m., over a period of 4 to 6 weeks beginning in September.

Possible Impacts

During the inspection work, you may notice:

  • A temporary drop in water pressure;
  • Discoloured or slightly cloudy water.

If your water appears cloudy or discoloured, run the cold water in your bathtub for approximately 15 minutes and repeat as needed until the water runs clear.

Discoloured water does not pose a health risk to people or pets.

⚠️ To avoid staining fabrics, make sure the water is completely clear before doing laundry or using any water-dependent appliance.
