Important Notice – Security Breach at CodeRED Provider

November 28th 2025
Important Notice – Security Breach at CodeRED Provider

The Town of Kirkland wishes to inform its residents that a security breach has affected the CodeRED platform, an external system used by our municipality to send emergency alerts (by phone, email, text message or mobile).

What you need to know:

  • Only data hosted by the CodeRED provider is affected.
  • Information that may have been compromised includes: name, address, email, phone number and, in some cases, the password associated with the CodeRED profile.
  • No banking, tax or Town-related data is involved.

Recommended actions:

  1. Change your passwords on other accounts and services, especially if you use the same password as your CodeRED profile or a slightly modified version.
  2. Be alert to suspicious emails or calls (phishing attempts).
  3. For official cybersecurity advice, visit: https://www.quebec.ca/securite-situations-urgence/cybersecurite/conseils-cybersecurite

The Town has retained a specialized cybersecurity firm to manage the situation. We are closely monitoring the situation and will keep you informed of any developments.

CORRECTION – ARTICLE PUBLISHED IN INFO-KIRKLAND
Update on the CodeRED Database

December 12, 2025 - An article published in the latest edition of the Info-Kirkland newsletter invited citizens to update their registration on the CodeRED platform. However, this platform has been deactivated due to a security breach and remains inaccessible at this time. We did not have this information when the newsletter went to press.

Please note that we are doing everything possible to find an alternative solution to continue sending emergency alerts to the population.

In the meantime, we invite citizens to provide their information by clicking hereYour cooperation is essential to allow us to inform you quickly in the event of an emergency.
