Votre chat, ce citoyen félin...

Dès qu’il franchit le seuil de la porte d’entrée de sa résidence familiale, votre chat revêt sa fourrure de citoyen félin. À ce titre, tout comme son maître humain, il est tenu de respecter les règles et modalités que lui impose la réglementation de sa municipalité.

Connaître la réglementation applicable

Le règlement no GEN-2020-54 sur les animaux prévoit certaines règles qui s’appliquent aux chats et à leur maître. Ainsi, un chat errant sur le territoire de la Ville de Kirkland peut être ramassé par un préposé municipal et mis en fourrière, auquel cas son propriétaire devra payer les frais de capture et de pension pour réclamer son animal.

Réglementation en bref

Le règlement sur les animaux prévoit qu’en bon citoyen félin, le chat ne doit pas:

  • causer un dommage à la propriété d’autrui;
  • miauler au point de troubler la paix ou importuner le voisinage;
  • déplacer des ordures;
  • quitter sa propriété;
  • errer dans les limites de la Ville;
  • se trouver sur une propriété privée sans le consentement du propriétaire de celle-ci;
  • se trouver dans un parc, un terrain de jeux ou autre lieu public propriété de la municipalité.

Pour sa part, le propriétaire du chat est tenu:

  • de voir à ce que son animal se conforme aux règles de bon voisinage que lui impose le règlement sur les animaux;
  • de fournir à son animal la nourriture, l’abri et les soins élémentaires nécessaires;
  • de garder au plus deux chats sous son toit (sauf s’il s’agit de chatons nouveau-nés qui peuvent être gardés ensemble jusqu’à trois mois);
  • de ne pas abandonner son animal dans les limites de la municipalité.

To notify us of a lost, found or stray cat or to file a complaint about a cat, dog or other animal, or to notify us about a dead or injured animal within the city limits, please call the Municipal Patrol dispatch centre at 514 630-1234.
