Mayor Michel Gibson elected to FCM’s Board of Directors

KIRKLAND – Following the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) Annual General Meeting, held as part of its Annual Conference and Trade Show in Edmonton, Alta., Mayor Michel Gibson of Kirkland was elected to represent the Quebec Region on FCM’s Board of Directors, helping ensure that the interests of Quebec municipalities are represented on the national stage.

“I am honoured to represent the Quebec Region on the Federation of Canadian Municipalities’ Board of Directors. Municipalities are at the heart of the challenges and solutions that directly affect our residents. I look forward to working with colleagues from across the country to advance municipal priorities and help ensure that the voices of Quebec municipalities are heard at the national level,” said Mayor Michel Gibson.

The Federation of Canadian Municipalities is the national voice of municipal governments, with more than 2,000 members representing over 90 per cent of the Canadian population. FCM’s Board of Directors is composed of elected municipal officials and affiliate members from all regions and communities of all sizes across the country.

As a representative of the Quebec Region on FCM’s Board of Directors, Mayor Gibson will help establish the organization’s policy priorities based on the concerns of municipal governments and affiliate members. Board members meet throughout the year to review and adopt recommendations developed by standing committees on key national issues, including infrastructure, housing, public safety and climate change.

Board positions are filled through annual elections held during FCM’s Annual General Meeting. This takes place as part of FCM’s Annual Conference and Trade Show, which provides its over 2,000 municipal delegates with the opportunity to debate and vote on policy priorities for the year ahead.
