In Kirkland, organic materials, leaves and green waste collection takes place once a week, on Tuesdays, starting at 7 am. The brown bin should be placed at the curb after 6 p.m. Monday evening or before 7 am Tuesday morning and put away before the end of the day on Tuesday. Your wheeled bin is the property of the Town of Kirkland and must remain on the premises when you move.
Please note that the bins are the property of the Town of Kirkland and must remain on the property when you move
As much as possible, we ask that organic waste be placed in tightly closed paper bags or be well wrapped in newspaper or cardboard boxes, etc., so as not to be discarded directly in the brown bin.

It is prohibited to dispose of leaves and other green waste in the Friday garbage collection. The garbage removal contractor will leave in place bags and other receptacles containing green residues.
Let’s adopt good practices in reducing household waste and avoid using plastic bags to dispose of green waste! Please ensure to make your landscaper aware of this regulation!
Did you know?
To dispose of dead leaves, you can leafcycle them using the lawnmower to shred and spread them evenly in a thin layer as a free natural fertilizer for your soil. Shredded leaves can also be used as mulch for gardens and landscapings.
To optimize this pick-up service, it is important that:
the bin is properly positioned at the curb
the wheels face the house
the cover is closed and remains unlocked
Also, the bin should always be placed on your property and not on the street, so it does not obstruct the street sweeper or the snow plows. Otherwise, the streets cannot be cleaned properly.
Whether it’s a wheel, lid, axle or latch, any part of your brown bin that’s broken or missing can be replaced at home, free of charge!
Request a repair
To begin with, you need to request a repair by submitting a service request online. In particular, you need to tell us the address where the bin to be repaired is located and identify the broken part(s) to be replaced.
Bin repair
The contractor appointed by the city repairs broken bins at your home, during the day on Thursday.
The bin to be repaired must be emptied of all contents and placed at the curb after 6:00 pm the day before the Thursday scheduled for repair, i.e. late Wednesday.
Every Tuesday at 2:00 pm, the contractor draws up a new list of repairs to be carried out on Thursday of the same week. Thus, a broken bin for which an online request is received BEFORE 2:00 pm on Tuesday of a given week will appear on the list of repairs to be carried out on Thursday of the same week. Similarly, a broken bin for which an online request is received AFTER 2:00 pm on Tuesday of a given week will appear on the list of repairs to be carried out on Thursday of the following week.
Submit a repair request online
The repair of a broken bin is a free service available upon request by means of an online request.
To submit a service request for the repair of your brown bin, click on the image below and look for the box labeled “BROWN BIN TO BE REPAIRED”:
If your brown bin was not collected during the scheduled pickup, you can notify the Town promptly through the Online Request System.
When all conditions are met (brown bin placed on time, positioned correctly, and containing only accepted materials), the Town will instruct the contractor to carry out a corrective collection.
Once your request has been received, you will receive an email confirmation indicating the scheduled day for the corrective pickup and, if necessary, any adjustments to be made regarding non-compliant items.
